  1. Yes it is true, activities that are designed to introduce a particular area of grammar may be very challenging to organize in English. These are some advantages and disadvantages of delivering grammar explanations or eliciting, and activity directions in English.
    Disadvantages:
1.Eliciting or delivering grammar explanation keeps the student alert.
    2. Delivering helps you realise if the students are listening and understanding or not.
3.Eliciting helps you find out what they already know.
    4. eliciataion can mean more student talking time(STT) cut down on teacher talking time (TTT).
    5. Eliciting helps students learn how to guess.
    6. They can learn/be exposed to useful incidental language during elicitation.
    7. Elicitation can show them how to work things out for themselves.

Disadvantages of eliciting or delivering grammar explanations and activity in English classroom.

    1. It can be time consuming.
    2. It doesn't always lead to more STT.
    3. One student can dominate answering your elicitation questions.
    4. It can become automatic.
    5. It can be met by silence.
    6. The language of elicitation or deliveration is not like a normal communication.
    7. It can get boring/repetitive.
    8. It can seem childish/patronising.
    9. It can be culturally inappropriate.
    10. There is no point asking a question you already know the answer to.
    11. There is a chance the wrong thing will be more memorable than the right one.
    12. The positive feedback might mean that the right answer doesn't stand out.

When I expanin some gramatical points in English, students as well as I often come to deadend. First of all, students are not 100% sure what teacher is talking about. They probably have a vague idea, but not cristal-clearly positive about it. Secondly, some challening gramatical words can even decrease students' morale toward English. Thirdly, it takes twice time to do one activity due to Korean translation after Egnlish direction. On the other hand, English direction can increase students' listening ability. Since students pay attention to the direction in order to play an activity, their listening skill can be prompted. It can motivate students to speak as well. If they do not understand teacher's direction, they ask questions to make sure. Of course, beginers use Konglish, but I think it's quite all right. Someday, Konglish can develop into a real Englsih. I personally use group work in every lesson. At first, I ask 4 students to volunteer to be a captain of each 4 group. Therefore, in the English learning class, they help those who can not understand Egnlish teacher. Sometimes, after an activity direction, I give captains extra time to explain the direction in Korean. I believe peer learning is the best solution in big class like in Korea. That's why I alwasy try to make the most use of smart students.

  4. First of all, the pro is when you learn grammar with activity, English becomes more friendlier and fun to learn. For beginners, it is essential to keep the interest in English, especially when learning more complexed grammar. When a person learn English, it is more efficient to learn with very comfortable and fun environment rather then very stiff and boring environment. The Con is, learning by activity can help when the person is memorizing basics. But, it is limited to use activity to learn all the grammars, and also there is possibility that one might loss interest in regular lessons that use traditional teaching method. Sometime, students might miss a point of what they must learn from that activity. They might miss a big picture of whole session and only concentrate on grammar that they have learned through activity.

  5. When we teach grammar we can just explain it or we can provide different activities for students. Giving explanations may be boring and the students are passive during the procedure.
But the teacher can prepare that class easily
and spend less time. They can use grammar books and follow the course books.
It needs to be both efficient and appropriate when we plan grammar practice activities. So the teacher has to understand what, when, how to do the activities. It will take much time to prepare that class.
Students can do group work, following the exercises they find out rules and experience various exciting activities.

  6. To fulfill this challenge, tethers should take a lot of efforts to find out the suitable activities that are designed for introducing a particular area of grammar.

But I agree to this attempt because it is easy and efficient way for teaching grammar to students. But it requires a lot of ideas that can let students to understand particular area of grammar with suitable activities. There are both strong points and disadvantages according to how making the comprehensible activities for particular area of grammar.

Advantage: 1) learners can understand grammar easily with natural activities.
    2) once learners understood activities for grammar, they will remember grammar longer.
    3) Teachers can improve their teaching skill.

Disadvantage: 1) learners who do not have enough English proficiency, They might be discouraged.
    2) It spends much time and requires more efforts than another way.
    3) It is possible that some learners might misunderstand teacher`s instructions (directions)

To give directions in English about the grammar activities has good points and bad points. If the explanations are delivered to students only in English, it surly can be very helpful to improve students' language skills, especially in hearing. Furthermore,
they can get some knowledge about specific terminology about the grammar.
Students also can be very attentive to get the explanations. Nonetheless of these advantages, it's very difficult to make our students fully understood about the complicated grammar activities. It may take much time to get them understood, and they might take it false way, if they are in the beginner's level. Thus I think teachers need to give the directions considering the levels of the learners.

  8. One advantage of delivering grammar is helping students to use exact sentences. Most students are confused how to connect sentences or how to express their thought. Grammar is needed for high level students to write essay or
composition. It is also needed for lower level students to understand what they are talking.
For the beginner students, teacher can teach them grammar with easy dialogs that they have already known. This makes students feel easy and interesting in grammar. I think there are lots of advantage of grammar. Only a little advantage of it is too much grammar is focused in Korean education. Learning difficult parts of grammar for test make students give it up, I think.

  9. Delivering grammar explanations and activity directions in English is very challenging to EFL learners as well as to non-native teachers. EFL learners feel frustrated because they don't understand even the basic grammar terms even though they have already known what they are in their native language. My students often answer in Korean when I ask grammar points in English. I think it is o.k. if they understand the grammar rules and they can use English following the rules. However, it is necessary to Know and understand grammar terms and rules in English because English terms are universal. They can communicate with these terms.

  10. I think delievering grammar is important for EFL learners because they start to study English when they are teens. For teens cannot accept and learn the language like baby.
OK. anyway, What is disadvantage grammar makes students feel boring and not fun to study English. So Students become to hate English. But, if students learn the grammar exactly, they can make exact sentences in their life. Anyway, If teachers just teach grammar alone, techers can teach easily but students don't like that way. In Ch14 there are many activity about teaching grammar, that is shocking forme. Because I didn't think of that to study grammar interestingly. If teachers prepare well, that class will be so fun. But, it takes too much time. So that is not proper for high school students. However, Sometimes high school students feel so boring to learn English, that is good to do an activity. If middle school students study grammar doing these activity, that will be good for them. Anyway teachers need wisdom to mix the explanation of grammar and the activity of grammar. I want to teach grammar with fun activities.

Most of the activities in the chapter 14 are very interesting, but I like 'Example 2, Inviting' the most.

For example, I show my students a picture of a playground where boys are playing soccer. Beside the playground an old man with a walking stick is walking. Just at that moment, a soccer ball is flying over to him.

I ask the students what is happening in the picture. Then I tell them to read a related dialogue I prepared, and they fill in the blanks in the dialogue. When they are done they compare their possible answers with their partner. I later let them hear the dialogue spoken on an audio track so that they can see if they were right.

By doing this activity, they can practice their listening and speaking, and improve their vocabulary and expressions. They also learn some grammar structures from the dialogue with my explanation.

Many teachers expect that their students can perceive some more sense of English language skills by explaining grammar and activity in English.
The most helpful advantage is to provide more opportunities listening and understanding English with students by teachers’ explanation.
However, even though this point is so much advantageous, some teachers are still reluctant to adapt this method. Because students may more be confused with unknown words during explanation. Those may demotivate students to do task which they must accomplish as their main purpose.
Therefore, my conclusion is that teachers must be flexible according to their students’ abilities.

Teaching grammar with using several methods in the text book would be very useful in Korean situation (method A). In Korea, teachers used to teach English grammar with using textbooks which are dividing several grammar parts like verb, tense, infinitive, gerund, participle, voice, mood, noun, preposition, adjective, adverb, etc (method B). Method A has many advantages such as (1) motivating students to study grammar joyfully, (2) leading student to learn grammar without tiresome. However, method A also has some disadvantages as well: it might be difficult to teach grammar as a whole comparing with method B. Nevertheless, method A can be very innovative way of teaching grammar for Korean students.

  14. I want to tell learning grammar is very important to advance English learner. Because grammar helps how to write and how to figure out the reading task. However, we have to part most of studying time into reading, writing, speaking and grammar. We don't have to emphasis on grammar too much.
