1. The things that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course were; the group activities, peer consultations, the think pair share, the way of grouping students (jigsaw, numbered heads together, etc., etc.) and the presentation after discussing of a certain topics.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before was, the use of APA (American Psychology Association) in all written outputs (ex. our writing assignment), most specially in citing the source and in writing the references. Because it was quit different for what I have learned when I was writing my research paper in my undergrad years.
3. The things that I am going to do to help me remember course content are; to practice immediately in my class of we have done throughout the duration of the course, to read the books and most specially to visit her in the blog course...!!!!
4. The thing that I found QUIT not most difficult in the coursework was, during the group activities or pair consulatations because of communication gaps. I can't go directly of what I am trying to say in English because not all of my classmates could catch up quickly the key points. Sometimes I forced myself to talk in Korean, though I am not that fluent yet and I knew that we were all have the same feelings but I am more affected beause I'm the only one among them. But maybe if all the group discussions were done in English and all of the members of the group speak English, I think there will be no problem in sharing ideas to each and everyone. But its not a big deal for me, because me too is a non-native-speaker, I am just expressing my thoughts here because it was asked. But I love all of my Korean classmates! Keep on fighting guys! We can do it! Mansei!
5. The question that I would like to ask about what we have done is; Why did we allow to open our books or to make an outline during the examination? What's the purpose of doing so? Because I din't experience that before althroughout my school/university life. But although we're told to open and make an outline for the exam, I did not do both I just asked 2 times some clues from my seatmate because I have this illness of forgetfulness...hehehe PEACE!
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course were various group activities. It was helpful to experience the method we have learned, or just it was memorable events. It was good to meet nice people and have them to be partners in a new environment.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before was the importance of mother tongue. For learning English as a second language, I did not ignore the first language, though, I did not know that some researches proved it and it was written in our textbook. It was very interesting.
3. The things I am going to do to help me remember course contents are different kinds of methods to teach English. They are really useful and it is the reason why we are taking this course. So for future teaching situations, I need to remember and have opportunities to practice them.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was to reach the textbook in advance. I know it is required and helpful, though, reading English textbook is still a hard work for me as a non-native speaker. It is not because of the reading text itself. It is because of reading a book in English is the most challenging work for a non-native speaker even if he/she is advanced or above.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is the different kinds of English you mentioned a moment in class such as Singapore English, and Korean English. I knew there are some countries which use English as their first language, but I did not know that we can classify English with just countries if they study or use English. And if so, I am wondering what kinds of feature are concerned to be a certain kind of English or so on.
1.The things that I enjoyed most in the 10 week of course were many kinds of activities such as group works and pair works that I've done. It was quite good for sharing what I have thought and listening what they have thought during the activities. It made me happy and open mind.
ReplyDelete2.The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were the advantages of non-native-speaker teachers. For teaching English as a non-native-speaker teacher, now I would have more confident.
3.The things that I am going to do help me remember course content are various different methods to learn English such as role-play, jigsaw, etc. It will be helpful to me not only remember course content but also how to use it.
4.The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was to share my own ideas with pairs in English during the activities. It was hard work for me because I've never done this before in my English class. But I enjoyed the situations of L1 and L2.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is; Why did we check our answers with our classmates after the examination? Is there any benefit? Or Is that appropriate for all korean students?
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was many kind of gruop activities i never thought. When i taught the students, i always thought about teaching method with creative thinking and fun. Through this course, i could learn about many interesting teaching method.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before was a concept which students and teacher can develop each other through unlimited communication and interesting class. I had thought that teacher's goal is only teaching the knowledge they have. But i think sometimes students can be good teacher because they have more creative thinking than i have.
3. The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is reacting this many kind of activities again and again. I learned that repeating is most important thing in teaching. I'm going to practice this activities by finding appropriate method which match with student's level.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was to apply this contents to teach. I think many activities of this cousework need student's voluntary participarion. But most korean students not enough to participate actively. So it's so difficult that teacher should provoke the students to participate when we teach students in contents of this courbook.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is .....nothing.^^; It's so perfect for me.

ReplyDelete1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was to learn several ways of methods for English teaching.
2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before was almost every theories and practices in the classes and the text book.
3. The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is practicing real exercises of teaching methods like several jigsaws.
4. The things I found most difficult in the coursework were actual practices of TTP.
5. The questions I would like to ask about what we have done is the effects of these TTP’s real applications.
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was getting to know how I can teach students efficiently. This course guided me how I can manage the group, treat students, use activities and materials, etc.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before was student- centered approach. I was only familiar with teacher-centered learning through my experience from school. Now I realized how important student-centered approach is for learning language.
3. The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is ‘differentiation’. When we teach students, we will meet the mixed ability class and how to teach them according to their level efficiently is very important part for both their self esteem and autonomy.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was reading the text book. It took so much time to read and understand it. It was so stressful and hard for me. But now I felt like my reading skill has been improved. And now I believed that in some way impulsive reading is necessary.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is that between giving an outline briefly and giving a clear and detailed instruction, which one is more helpful for students?
1. Most of the activities were really impressive and fun. Figuring out the covert & overt meaning, Making wished game, analyzing article headlines in terms of literacy and most of activities.
ReplyDelete2. Actually most of them were very new experiences for me. The most important gaining in this course is changing my prejudice about what is English itself which is the most fundamental concept as a staring of English teaching.
3. First, in what point should I teach English and secondly, to remember that there are so many creative ways of teaching and finally, to keep reminding what is the teachers' role for the best effects.
4. Literacy. I found myself is not quite well literal in some genres. I feel that literacy should be a very essential approach to EFL.
5. How to evaluate. I think this is one of the biggest questions.
1) I enjoyed most your jigsaw classes and the final test. Before the final test and during the beginning of the test, I was really stressful about that. But time went by during the final test, it was thrilling and also challengeable. It was open book test, you didn't want us to memorize something, you wanted to check our ability to use the textbook, and you were very generous when we checked out our test. Your final test encouraged me and gave me motivation to study Tesol more.
ReplyDelete2) The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were the usefulness of jigsaw and some useful web sites. I knew what jigsaw was. But I didn't be exposed to jigsaw classes too much. Though your classes I got to know the good points of various grouping and jigsaw.
3) The things I am going to do to help me remember course content is opening the textbook again. Whenever I met something concerned with the course content I'll open and read the textbook and apply it to my situation.
4) The things I found most difficult in the course work were reading the textbook and writing my ideas. When I read textbook and write something I felt stuffy. I need to improve my English ability.
5) I don't have the question I would like to ask about what we have done. Thank you for your interesting and generous classes.
1. I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was various kinds of group activities. They were unfamiliar methods for me. So they were refreshing.
ReplyDelete2. I learned in the course that I did not know before were almost theories and practice. I have not learned before about them. Thanks to the course, I found out new and useful information.
3. I am going to do to help me remember course content are activities such as exchanging opinion, presentation, and jigsaw. It took some time to get used to.
4. I found most difficult in the coursework was that all activity should be done in English. Frankly, It might be also hard work even though I did in Korean. I realized the importance of background knowledge while I had this course.
5. I would like to ask about what we have done is nothing yet. Thank you.
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was various activities that I was engaged in every lesson. I'm a 'beginner' teacher so I didn't know what and how to teach English. But experiencing new and diverse activities in this course served as a momentum for me to learn how to make my class successful.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before was the benefits of using the L1 in the L2 classroom. That issue had been my concern before I took TESOL course, and now I grasp the answer.
3. The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is proper activities for language skills - reading, listening, writing, speaking, and so on. The more I make efficient use of these activities, the more substantial lesson I can provide to my students, I believe.
4. The things I found most difficult in the coursework were to express my opinion or thought in English and to be creative. To know my weakness is not that cheerful experience but I hope it can be of benefit for me to be a better teacher.
5. The questions I would like to ask about what we have done are about native speakerism and a standard Korean English. I understand Korean teachers don't need to hold out for native speakerism. But teachers are still needed a standard to teach. Then what should it be to say the least of it? And I still don't understand what a Standard Korean English is. If there is it, I wonder how it would affect Korean teacher's teaching.
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was endless questions springing in my mind. Whenever new activities, materials were provided, I kept questioning myself 'What is teacher's intention for this? Why does he want us to do it?'. Although I failed to find answers sometimes, it was quite enjoyable to seek for the purpose of each activity.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not think of was the importance of writing and reading. In fact, you just brought up two questions to me: 'Why don't you take writing as a performance test? and why do you want to finish the boring textbook?'. For these questions, I tried to answer, but I realized that the more I tried to answer, the dumber answers I could think of. For weeks, I was obsessed with two questions and finally reached a decision what I should do. Through an English teachers' meeting in school, we decided to initiate limited extensive reading and book review as one of performance tests from the second semester. First of all, we are going to divide books by students' level and ask them to read during the class every two weeks. Then, students should write review by their level: first level in 50 words, second in 70 words and third in 100 words. We all knew the importance of reading and writing, but we were busy to make an excuse why we could not accept them as a test. Thank you for making me think!!!
3. The things I am going to do to help me remember course content are definitely activities based on four skills. I have already adapted some activities in my class.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was to find time to read a book in advance. I am well aware of the importance of preview, but sometimes, I could not spare time to do it. Thus, when you started the class without motivating or explaining the content, it was a bit frustrating. I exactly know I am the one to blame and take a responsibility. However, considering those who never studied English methodology previously, it would be effective if you teach us the content for 15 or 20 minutes and initiate various activities. I guess teacher-centered class is as efficient as its counterpart depending on the circumstance.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is when is the most proper stage to learn a foreign language. Some linguists argue it should be introduced before the age of 13 due to the critical period-a biologically determined period of life when language can be acquired more easily and beyond which time language is increasingly difficult to acquire. (Brown, 1994) Therefore, most Korean parents are so preoccupied with the thought of early English education. Moreover, Korean government is preparing to implement a new curriculum which teaches English from the first graders in elementary school. In retrospect of my language struggle history, it is not too late to introduce English in middle school. On the contrary, the early English education can demotivate students.

ReplyDelete1. The various kinds of pair and group work activities provided me with great chances to speak in English. Even though speaking English is still challenging for me, participation in pair and group work made me overcome fear of speaking English, to some extent.
ReplyDelete2. Your lesson seemed to emphasize learners' autonomy. I have learned that teachers can have students choose a assignment they want to work on among two kinds of ones provided by teachers and allow them to set criteria for assessment of assignment, on their own.
3. While I will be teaching students English in the future, I will consult the textbook, PPT materials and handouts offered during lessons, in order to get some good advice and cope with the difficulties in teaching.
4. I found it most difficult to preview each chapter for one lesson and understand fully the contents of the text e.g. the exact definition or concept of terminology.
I think we didn't have enough time to listen to your elaborate explanation about the contents of the textbook.
5. If I actually teach in classroom with over 30 students, how should I prepare different kinds or levels of learning materials in order to meet the demands of all individual students with diverse ability levels and preferences?
1. The thing(s) that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was
ReplyDeletevariety of activities. The activities working with pairs or teams were fun. The most advantage of them is I can understand the lesson easily by doing instead of just reading a text and listening to the lecture. That also make me adapt the activity to my real class in the institute cleary.
2. The thing(s) that I learned in the course that I did not know before was the benefit of using the L1 in the L2 classroom.
For a long time, I used to work under the pressure of English only speaking circumstance. That's why I kept in mind that students have to speak in only English during the class time. And I also used to think that it's better to learn English from the native speaker. But after I learned about the describing learning contexts, I found many advantages using L1 in the L2 classroom. So I don't insist speaking only English any more and get to have a confidence as a non native speaker teacher. I gradually try to reduce the thought of Native-speakerism.
3. The thing(s) I am going to do to help me remember course content is review the textbook, of course. In the textbook, there are many good explanations on how to approach the lesson and to deal with the problems. Furthermore, there are many excellent examples of activity that I can apply to my class. I'll keep the Harmer's suggestions in mind by reading and adjusting the textbook over and over and try to be a good teacher.
4. The thing(s) I found most difficult in the course work was understanding the text book clearly by myself. As I'm a L2 learner, it's hard to understand the text clearly and discuss about the book. So if I don't pre-read the text, I get easily lost and hardly catch up the class. During the course work, I wished many time that the text book had written in korean. I think it would be great if professor go through the text book briefly and give some detail explanation before doing activity.
5. The question(s) I would like to ask about what we've done is that how to apply the jigsaw, numbered heads together in a small class.
I tried jigsaw in the intermediate grammar class once but it didn't go through well.
In the class, there are 8 students and they used to like working as a pair.
But they didn't like jigsaw because they annoyed moving to another seat to make a group and they didn't find the benefit of the activity. I would like to know how to apply the activity efficiently.
I'm also curious how you would give us feedback to our works. I know that it would be impossible to get your detail comments on our works (such as 5 comments, assignment, test) but I wish you share us your ideas on the comments through this website. So many students can see the different sight of thoughts and study more by using this website as a community center.
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was hearing the other teachers thoughts and sharing my thoughts.
ReplyDelete2. The thing that I learned in the course that I did not know before waslearning how to respect my students. I love my students but I didn't respect them.
3. The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is teaching grammar. I will use grammar activities in my class.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was answering the questions. I never think about these questions so I had to think about them all week. It was helpful forme to think about how I teachand why I am teaching children right now.
5. The question(s) I would like to ask about I will ask when we are done with this course.
*** 1.What I enjoyed most is what I watch my peers presentation by teachers in different kinds of teaching methods and probably individually I enjoyed to read the textbook for posting about Professor's questions and preparing the final exam.
ReplyDelete*** 2. What I've found from this course book is that I could neconigesed a lot of examples of activities about TESOL. So inspire me to create further activities.
*** 3. Of course, I will and must remember these examples and develope further activities related examples in the course content.
*** 4. The most difficult thing studying in the coursework was that my english was improficiency to express the presentations even my teaching carries
*** 5. My Questioin !
Do you feel those actives you did (presented) in the classes through this course will be adjustable to current Korean EFL learners in the public school?
Even the professor and other teachers including me presented and excised various examples and methods of teaching English through this course, our exercising was little coherence and consistence toward Korean EFL students, that is, not keen eyes of what most Korean students probably enjoy to learner language properly in Korean situation. No relation consideration even Korean students who speak english much less than the classmate who are learning TESOL in English with native professor. As we all know, even we were hard time to present of teaching excise in English
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was hearing the other teachers thoughts and sharing my thoughts.
ReplyDelete2. The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were the advantages of groupwork. Now I realized how important groupwork for learning language.
3. The things I am going to do to help me remember course contents are different kinds of methods to teach English. They are really useful. I will use variety methods in my class.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was to read the textbook and found answering the questions in. That answering was not in textbook. I had to think about them all week.
5. I would like to ask about what we have done is nothing yet. Thank you.
1.The thing that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course was that I could understand your lecture in English, and I could communicate with you and classmates in English. So I could enjoy the activities and participate with enthusiasm.
ReplyDelete2. The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were many activities (so many that I never thought of), and methodologies. Especially through the writing assignment I learned APA style and Dogme methodology.
3. The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is to apply the methodologies and activities one by one to my daughters in real family life. Now we speak English for an hour everyday - of course, it is Konglish-like. But we enjoy it.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework is to communicate opinions each other in English only because lack of fluency. Of course I enjoyed the course a lot, I felt the limitation. And I also felt that Korean teachers and students need more creative thinking.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is what is your evaluation of our work. If our English is the more fluent the better we could have done our coursework. Can we make good teacher?? What do you think?
1. When we learned popular methodology, I had a good time. While I did various activities (e.g. the tree wishes game, Show me your ID, Fix my phobia), I didn’t know that it related to methodology.
ReplyDelete2. I have learned many activities so that the teacher improved language skill of students
3. It helped me remember that I was the student’s role in class and I did various activities directly.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework was jigsaw. I know cooperating with each other during studying has many advantages. I felt it, of course. But it was difficult and stressful that I tell member of my team my knowledge.
5. I would like to ask about our final test. I thought that marking examination paper was role of teacher, but we did not… Why you did so?
1. The things that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course were sharing our thoughts and opinions before I didn’t have company who have simmer job. I guess we have lots of commons.
ReplyDelete2. The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were lots of information about learning resources and educational technology, in addition to what is better method.
3.The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is to put theories into practice in my class.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the course work was writing test. It is because, I am not familiar with APA style and was first time for me to submit report to foreign professor however, I will use to it.
5. The questions I would like to ask about what we have done are how to teach English not only 4 sections such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and language skills but also about input ( reading, speaking ) output (writing, speaking) etc.
1. The thing that I enjoyed most in the first semester of the course was that I could share various experiences from my classmates. But I found I'm not good at communicating in English specially in speaking. So sometimes when you encouraged and made us to produce something in English in front of the whole classmates I felt really nervous and uncomfortable. For the next I think I need more preparation for the classes.
ReplyDelete2. The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were many activities in many aspects of learning English. I want to use some of these to teach language items. And now I know what the APA is a little. It was my first time to write something in APA style so it's not unfamiliar for me but it was interesting.
3. I really want to have and remember useful contents such as activities and examples in my long term memory system.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the coursework is to communicate opinions with classmates in English as I mentioned before and to read the chapter before the class. For me it took quite long time to finish reading the book.
5. The question I would like to ask about what we have done is quite nothing right now maybe because of my lack of understanding about the coursebook. I think I will have something to ask you later.
Kim, Yang-sook(W/A):
ReplyDelete1. The things that I enjoyed most in the 10 weeks of the course were that I could enjoy listening & speaking in English under immersion situation, and also had time to discuss in English with my tesol classmates. This program gave me to have enough confidence in using English.
2. The things that I learned in the course that I did not know before were that actually I majored English but I don't have enough knowledge of English.I didn't get a chance to see the movie of real vocal track and oral organization inside through screen and didn't time to learn various activities of 4 skills but now I can apply them to my class at school. Before, I just understood & thought how to play activity in theory.
3.The thing I am going to do to help me remember course content is what you taught us about teaching aid (including the useful sites), various teaching activities.
4. The thing I found most difficult in the course work was first, it's your hard & intensive test, I really didn't have enough time to find out the right answer within deep textbook, I think you should give us enough time to consider and express our thinking of the question in full.
second. I didn't have a chance to review & preview of textbook or doing homework. please understand our workplace, school is very hard to work and very busy because of excess documents to handle. third, it was very difficult to make your report with APA forms which wasn't familiar to us in Korea.
5. The questions I would like to ask about what we have done are that do you think there were too many activities which we did? Always I had to feel considerable tension before the exam & activities.
next, when we after test, I really want to score our testsheet by you & I hate my score known by someone within my class even we wrote our number.
